I have decided to position my masthead behind the image of my cover model as demonstrated by these covers of NME and Q magazine. I prefer this layout as I think it will draw the readers attention more to the cover model and the cover story. If i was to bring the masthead to the front, this would distract the readers from the cover image and would bring more attention to the masthead. As my aim is to create a strong cover story, my cover image must stand out and I feel this layout will create my desired effect.
